Jim has shared his notes from the 2006 McLendon Family Reunion. Below is an excerpt from it - the first part of a McLendon history that goes back 300+ years.

"Approximately 316 years ago there was a Dutch Prince – William of Orange, who was married to King James II of England’s oldest daughter. He took up arms against his Father-in-law and actually defeated King James in the Battle of the Boyne in Ireland in 1690. He had amassed an army of over 36,000 (including a lot of protestant Scots) and swept Catholic forces of King James and his French allies all the way to the sea in Dublin – King James fled to France, as he had already lost his own throne in England..."
